Nowadays Costa Rica promotes the “sustained tourism” also known as ecoturism, where the visitors not only have the opportunity to know and see the half million of natural species that can be found in the country, but also offers amusing alternatives as the sun and the beach as well as adventure tourism, among others.

Costa Rica has created the Certification for the Turistic Sustainebility (CSJ) of Costa Rica, which sets the country in the vanguard of the ecological tourism and its politics start to gain followers in the rest of Latin America.

Costa Rica has been “the first country in the continent to develop the program”, which gives the country a recognized leadership. The certification is a voluntary program to which 50 hotels have been already added, and from which, 80% are small.

The idea of certificate rentable touristic bussinesses and respectful to the environment and the social rights, emerged in 1993 by the initiative of the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo , ICT (Costarican Tourism Institute), the Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion de Empresas, INCAE (Central American Bussiness Administration Institute) and the University of Costa Rica.

Since long ago, is well known that Costa Rica carries its name not because of the abundance of gold, or hidden mineral richness, but because of the beauty found in the costs and its littoral, which is consider the biggest treassure of the country.

Costa Rica offers an advantage in the matter of distances, and it is because the distances between San Jose, the capital, and the main beaches and seabords, do not mean a problem for the tourist, and do not obligate to longs displacements. This fact joins the incredible touristc reality, for a person who travels by car, at 80km per hour, can perfectly dive into the Atlantic Ocean at 8 in the morning, and start a new road trip at 10 in the morning heading to the Pacific coast and be able to get taned in this last one, at 5 in the afternoon of that same day.

The landscaping starts in the north side of the country, in the Pacific side, with the semicircular vision of Bahia Salinas, in which, deep inside, vast beaches with gray sand can be found, and also the best places for the most famous sportive fishing.

From this point, 100 beaches can be found in the seabord, who’s variation of shape, color, sand type, water temperatures, and landscaping, turn them to be best beaches of Central America.

The most know beaches in the North side of the Pacific are: El Coco, Bahía Culebra, Playa Panamá, Playa Hermosa, Conchal, Brasilito, Tamarindo, Junquillal, Nosara y Sámara.

Among all them, Playa Conchal is the one that shows the most different composition, because instead of being covered by refined sand, it is covered by the most amazing shells, molluscs, and snails, which can be found in big quantities.

This is why a tourist in Costa Rica, that heads towards the coast for his vacation, will never get bored.

The National Park System is part of the Ministerio de Ambiente y Energia, MINAE (Ministry of Energy and the Environment). The department in charge is the Sistema Nacional de Areas de Conservacion, SINAC (Systemm of National Areas of Conservation).
